Finally made it over to hunt bear with my 12 year old son on his spring permit. After a grueling all night trip we made a 30 minute hike to a good viewpoint. Fifteen minutes after settling in to glass I glanced behind us and spotted a beautiful blonde colored bear feeding up the slope. Whispering excitedly I got his attention and he scrambled to get set up. After chambering a round and setting the bipod he was ready. I ranged the bear at 165 yards and discussed its size with my buddy. We agreed the bear was around 125 pounds and not rubbed at all. Although early in our hunt this was an opportunity too good to pass. As the bear fed on ants it offered a perfect angle and my son made the shot count. After waiting about 15 minutes we followed the scant trail and were rewarded with a golden prize. After celebrating and sending cell pics home we packed the bear out and got some much needed rest. We took the hide to Charlie's Taxidermy to be mounted. When Charlie checked the age he determined it was an old sow with broken, stained and worn teeth that would measure over 5 feet. I would like to thank all of the friends and family who helped in so many ways. You know who you are.
I will post pictures when the site is fixed.(Pics posted thanks to Jackelope)
